Hello, I'm Etienne Sabino. My country France is on the brink of war with Germany. We are fighting over the African country Morroco. We, France, are trying to protect Morroco. Germany is proud of their new empire's military power. But we were the ones that used to be known as the top military power! So we are going to do anything we can to destroy them stupid Germans! But we probably can't do it on our own. After our defeat in the Franco-Prussian War, it is almost certain that we will need help. So I heard our president is going to sign a treaty to form a triple alliance with Italy and Austria-Hungry.
June 28, 1914 The assassination of Austria-Hungary's Archduke Franz Ferdinand is crazy! When he announced that he was gonna visit Sarajevo, I guess it angered many Serbians. My dad told me about how the "Black Hands" killed him. This really makes me mad. After the assassination, a lot of countries got very angry, including France. Wit all of the alliances that was started, a domino effect happened. When one country got mad and decided to go to war, so did other countries that were in alliances with them.
August 3, 1914 Germany just tried to blindside us. General Alfred von Schlieffen tried to invade Belgium, take them out, and then swing south behind our lines. He called this the Schlieffen Plan. This plan did not work. I guess Germany didn't realize what they were doing. Belgium and Britain have an agreement to protect eachother when they go into battle. Since Germany invaded Belgium to try to swing around to catch us off guard, Britain had to defend Belgium. They declared war on Germany. We would use poison gas and grenades in battle because them stupid Germans stayed in the trenches and obliterated anyone of us that tried to run to their trench. Throwing grenades and poison gas really helped us out. One time my buddy was getting ready to hurl a grenade over to the German side, but it slipped out of his hand! Every body dove out of the way as quickly as they could. A few weren't so lucky.

From what I have heard, and I'm pretty sure it's true, the U.S. is getting into the war. German submarines torpedoed a ship carrying 128 U.S. passengers which Germany thought carried supplies to us. I don't know if that's true that it carried supplies or not, but that doesn't matter. The United States is now on our side and Russia has dropped out. Our men are so excited about this, they are saying we are no doubt gonna win the war. Christmas!!!!
Christmas time always makes me happy. If only I could be back home celebrating it with my family. I really miss going out to a christmas tree farm with my Pops and picking out the best tree we could find. But I'm stuck here fighting for my country, which isn't THAT bad. The Germans decided to take a break and offered for all of us to play a game of soccer. That was fun. And of course, we beat them stupid Germans. Just like how it's gonna be in the war! We will be back fighting against eachother tomorrow. Which seems really weird to me. I made a really good friend named Armin. Me and him have so much in common. He was talking about how he wanted to be back home with his family but likes serving for his country. We talked and talked while we sat by the fire, not wanting tomorrow to come. I have no idea what I will do if I see him on the battlefield. How are you supposed to kill one of the only friends you have made while at war? Well I'm going to bed, tomorrow is going to be a long day.

I just heard about how our prime minister Georges Clemenceau wants Germany to pay for all damages to we have gotten in the war. He also said Germany must return Alsace-Lorraine that Germany had taken in 1871. From what my parents said in the letter from home, 750,000 houses and 23,000 factories have been destroyed!!!!! He also wanted the area Rhineland, near the Rhine River, to prevent Germany from attacking France in the future.
November 11, 1918
The war is over!!!! The Germans signed the Treaty of Versailles and this war is officially over. Right now I'm on the train to go back to France. Oh I can't wait to see my Ma and Pa! I'm so glad I made it through the war. I honestly didn't think I would. So I thank God so much that he has let me live and return home to my family!
